COMMUNITY
ACTIVITIES:
NEWSLETTER

Our club remains active in the community through our annual participation in the Living Traditions Festival, sponsored by the Utah Arts Council each May.  In addition, we are also active in assisting an underserved community in Salt Lake through our work with the South Salt Lake Columbus Center.  Some of our other yearly activities include the Lawrence Milliora Keiki Fishing Tournament, 'Ohana Day, an 'Ohana Retreat, as well as our montly gatherings which are held at the Columbus Center, 2531 S. 400 E. in Room 106.

In addition we have Kawaiulu, our Hawaiian culture and language initiative.  Currently Kawaiulu is actively engaged in assisting a local halau in training some of its members in reaching 'olapa status, and our Hawaiian language class is making great strides in their understanding of our mother tongue.

Maintaining and strengthening our cultural ties is always a priority. As such we've held numerous workshops, some of which include lei hulu with Nu`uanu Lenchanko, a genealogy workshop with Analu Josephides and the Reverend Joel Hulu Mahoe Resource Center, various lei making workshops, a Hawaiian Quilt workshop, Mahiole making along with Ipu Heke and Ipu Hele `ole making and `uli`uli, Ho`oponopono, a Hawaiian Tattooing Presentation, `Ohe Kapala, and many many more.

2009 promises to be even busier for us as we have many exciting events planned for our Hawaiian community and community at large.

Stay tuned, we're planning an 'Aha Wahine event for our Native Hawaiian Women.  Reconnect, re-remember, rejuvenate and restore our Native Hawaiian perspectives on who we are as Native Hawaiian Women.
